The dinging sound from the chain hitting the chainstay when riding off road can sometimes be annoying. This is why the Tani-tector is great. You can use the leftover bar tape and it looks pretty nice.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-171346\" src=\"https:\/\/bluelug.live\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/image-5.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"550\" height=\"550\" \/><br \/>\nThe Tani-tector was actually inspired by the classic Japanese randonneurs. They would have a tab on the chainstay for putting rubber protectors like in the image.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-171348\" src=\"https:\/\/bluelug.live\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/image.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"800\" height=\"800\" srcset=\"https:\/\/bluelug.live\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/image.png 800w, https:\/\/bluelug.live\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/12\/image-768x768.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 800px) 100vw, 800px\" \/><br \/>\nI think I did this thinking it was a Rivendell style adaptation of it.<\/p>\n<p>However, one of my client&#8217;s wife asked me if it was okay to remove the Tani-tector after I had built her bike and applied the Tani-tector.<\/p>\n<p>She probably thought that I was some kind of maniac who randomly puts cloth tapes on a random place. I wanted to off myself!<\/p>\n<p>All jokes aside, chainstay protectors are not something that you must have.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full that \u201ceven the rust caused by paint chipping from the chain hitting the frame is beautiful.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>That said, take a look at this cotton bar tape chainstay protector\u2014it was likely born from a natural desire to do something about \u201cthat sound\u201d of the chain hitting the frame, which becomes bothersome as you actually ride the bike.<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\"
